Anatomy of a Neuron
Dendrite- receive information from other neurons and sensory receptors. The dendrites carry signals toward the cell body.

Cell Body- Carries out basic cellular activities like creating proteins and energy necessary for the function and health of the cell. Nucleus is located here.

Axon- Carries message away from the cell body to other body areas. There is one axon for each neuron

Myelin Sheath- A cover surrounding the axon that helps speed neural impulses.

Vessicle- They hold neurotransmitters and are found in the axon terminal

Neurotransmitter- Chemicals that allow two nerves to communicate.

How Neurons Communicate
An action potential occurs
Calcium enters the vessicles and binds with neurotransmitters
the neurotransmitters cross the synaptic space
they bind with the dendrite on the post synaptic neuron
then it causes an action potential on the post synaptic neuron
the neurotransmitters are sucked up by the re-uptake pump or destroyed by enzymes.
